The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago partnered with Cook County, Calumet City and others to fund and install the four improved alleys situated in four different city wards.

River Forest was honored for excellence in promoting green infrastructure, specifically for modernizing the village alleyways with permeable pavers.

In addition to capturing stormwater and mitigating flooding in the area, the projects demonstrate the benefits of green infrastructure to residents.

TARP, consisting of three reservoirs and four tunnel systems, is currently holding more than 731 million gallons of water.

The $30 million project will remove approximately 140 acres from the floodplain, protect 92 structures and remove more than 1,300 parcels from the 100-year floodplain.
