Staff and commissioners from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) kicked off the 100th anniversary of Black History Month by lifting every voice and raising the Pan-African Flag in salute to African Americans.

A new resource produced by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) aims to help communities manage stormwater through green infrastructure techniques that employ natural solutions to mitigate flooding and improve water quality.

Friends of the Chicago River selected the MWRD’s project for its innovative design, immense scale and multiple positive impacts.

Staff for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) are working around the clock Friday to manage a rare January storm that hit the Chicago region last night. The National Weather Service reported that approximately 1.92 inches of rain fell over the Chicago area yesterday, with many gauges across the region reporting over 2.5 inches in communities southwest of the city, and rain fell heavily in a matter of hours.

The McCook Reservoir and Thornton Composite Reservoir are currently holding approximately 3.4 BG of water.

Each day, the MWRD treats the region’s wastewater and transforms it into clean water in a matter of hours to be returned to the environment.

These important funds help the MWRD adapt to its evolving role in meeting the challenges of climate change, unpredictable stormwater flows and emerging contaminants and pollutants that threaten the environment.
