This schoolyard improvement is part of the Space to Grow program which transforms CPS schoolyards into dynamic places to learn and play, while also educating students on the importance of green infrastructure to manage stormwater.

Located on the north bank of the Chicago River at McClurg Court, the fountain was constructed in 1989 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the MWRD.

The MWRD welcomed visitors for a behind-the-scenes look at how the Calumet WRP transforms water and protects the region’s environment with tours of operations and visits with scientists, engineers and other staff to learn about what the MWRD does.

His work has illuminated the intricate relationship between the city's development and its waterways, bringing to light the significance of institutions like the MWRD.

Guests of all ages are invited to take an abbreviated tour of the plant, meet with MWRD staff for interactive activities and take home free oak tree sapling,

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recognized the MWRD with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2024 Budget and Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the MWRD, the MWRD Retirement Fund and to the MWRD Retiree Health Care Trust for the Fiscal Year 2023.
