The celebration highlighted the lasting impact of Black workers throughout history, emphasizing their role in shaping the labor movement, driving progress, and strengthening the nation.

“Making waves: Rethinking our mission for N₂O emissions at WRRFs” was recently published by Water Research Magazine.

The MWRD will honor the significant contributions and enduring legacy of Black Americans in the workforce, highlighting the central role labor has played in shaping their experiences and driving progress.

The award was presented to MWRD Chairman of Finance Marcelino Garcia and MWRD staff at SOAR’s Annual Meeting held Jan. 30, 2025

The annual flag raising events honor the achievements of the Black community, who strengthen the Chicago region and contribute towards the MWRD’s work to protect the region’s water environment .

The flag will be raised at all seven water reclamation plants. 

This 20-month study will assess the potential for the MWRD and the Forest Preserves to coordinate and share costs for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of a Deer Creek-Third Creek Reservoir.

The budget aligns with the goals, strategies and initiatives outlined in the MWRD’s five-year Strategic Plan that values excellence, respect, innovation, safety, equity and diversity, and accountability.

President Kari K. Steele was elected president for a fourth term, Vice President Patricia Theresa Flynn was elected for a second term, and Chairman of Finance Marcelino Garcia was elected by his peers for a third term.
