The CPC was an initiative sparked by the MWRD’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025. The goal was to position the MWRD as a critical community asset and to ensure that the MWRD is a responsible neighbor and inclusive business partner.

GWRC members toured the Stickney WRP and listened to several presentations on the latest water research on topics that addressed managing emerging contaminants in water.

The visit showcased the MWRD’s essential work in protecting regional water quality and mitigating flooding throughout Cook County.

The MWRD partnerships cover a variety of stormwater management strategies and technical assistance opportunities through a variety of programs.

MWRD scientists, farmers and specialty crop producers discussed research and practices for beneficial use of resources.

The IWA Climate Smart Utilities Recognition Programme honored the MWRD for its Climate Action Plan, placing it among the top three finalists under the Achiever category.

MWRD programs such as the Green Infrastructure Partnership Program and the Real Estate Program can help provide resources through local partnerships to support urban agriculture, such as community gardens.

President Steele reflected on her ascent from MWRD intern to chemist to Board president, while also detailing the MWRD’s commitment to clean water.

Kari K. Steele was elected November 6, 2012, to her first term as a Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) and re-elected in 2018 for a second term.
