The $30 million project will remove approximately 140 acres from the floodplain, protect 92 structures and remove more than 1,300 parcels from the 100-year floodplain.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month emerged from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s initiative to unify domestic violence advocates in raising awareness and promoting resources for survivors.

The event brought together key industry experts, including hydrologists, engineers, planners and sustainability leaders, sharing valuable insights on building resilient, eco-friendly communities for the future.

The MWRD and project partners will celebrate the progress made on the Robbins Heritage Park and Midlothian Creek Restoration Project.

The 600-acre-foot reservoir, designed to capture 195 million gallons of storage capacity, was completed in 2023.

MWRD aquatic biologists conduct fish monitoring periodically at 26 locations throughout its service area, which includes the Chicago, Calumet, and Des Plaines River Systems.

The group visited the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant, the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan McCook Reservoir, and the Mainstream Pumping Station where they discussed water reclamation efforts and explored shared goals in sustainability and infrastructure.

The $25 million project was launched in 2022 and will span a total of five years.

The CPC was an initiative sparked by the MWRD’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025. The goal was to position the MWRD as a critical community asset and to ensure that the MWRD is a responsible neighbor and inclusive business partner.

GWRC members toured the Stickney WRP and listened to several presentations on the latest water research on topics that addressed managing emerging contaminants in water.
